For many students, some of the best times of their lives are spent with their college Greek family. Not everyone elects to join a Fraternity or Sorority in college, and some who do find that it's not necessarily their thing, but for some people, the Greek letters associated with their particular Greek brothers and sisters are absolutely sacred.
Fraternities are all-male, initiatory organizations with membership considered to be active throughout a "brother's" Undergraduate years. Sororities are the female counterpart to these groups. Certain Greek organizations consider membership to last a lifetime, particularly those bound by a cultural or ethnic tie. Greek Letter Organizations are commonly active on campus and in the community, making a noteworthy effort to maintain a positive relationship with the outside community for various service projects and good-will contributions. Many do, however, hold on to a certain stigma with which these groups are associated, for some of their practices regarding hazing, drinking and social behavior.
