Arkansas Tech University hosts over 10,000 students. It was founded as the Second District Agricultural School in 1910, but the University has grown so successful that it now operates a satellite campus just north on I-40 in the mountain-town of Ozark. Along with offering students a tradition of innovation, the main campus in Russellville is also the home to several sites on the National Register of Historic Places, including Caraway Hall, Techionary, Williamson Hall and Wilson Hall, among others.
Despite being a fully-accredited four-year university, Arkansas Tech stays true to its vo-tech roots and provides a wide catalog of Career Training Diploma, Professional Certificate & Licensure and Associates' Degree programs. Many of the University's students select the school for its Nuclear Technology program because Russellville is home to a large nuclear power plant which hires the majority of its workforce from Arkansas Tech. For students looking to earn a Bachelors' or Masters' Degree, Tech is still a stellar option, as they do offer entire catalogs of programs for these ranks as well.
Tech does offer students courses from Colleges of Applied Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Business, Education, Natural & Health Sciences and Professional Studies & Community Outreach, as well as, of course, the Graduate College. The Russellville metro area is home to around 30,000 residents who make community support a large part of life at the University's student life. Thanks to the University's proximity to Interstate 40, students easily access other larger metros such as Little Rock, Dallas, Memphis, Fayetteville and Tulsa for a change of pace.
